Police rescued a teen aged girl, arrested three traffickers from Moheshpur

KHULNA, Aug 26, 2023(BSS): Police rescued a teen-aged girl from the bank of Padlia River under Moheshpur Police Station in Jhenidah district near Indian border in the early hours of today.

Acting on a secret information, a special team of Khanjahan Ali Thana Police went to an operation last night and rescued Bithi Khatun, 19, hailed from Dighalia upazila in Khulna district, Sub Inspector (SI) Md Ishtiaq of the police station confirmed to the BSS.

Police also arrested three members of the traffickers’ gang from the bank of the bordering Padalia River of the area. The arrested persons were identified as Sheikh Javed, 35, son of Sheikh Oli, hailed from Murshidabad in West Bengal of India, Sonia Khatun, 23, daughter of Hayat Laskar and Kulsum Begum, 25, daughter of Nur Islam, both are residents of Hazigram village under Dighalia upazila.

On August 24, Momtaz Begum, aunt of the victim, filed a general diary (GD) with Khanjahan Ali Police Station alleging that her niece Bithi Khatun was in the captivity of a traffickers’ gang of Dighalia upazila area.

Following the allegation, a special police team went on an operation at the Padalia river area under Moheshpur Upazila in Jhenidah district as they came to know that the traffickers’ gang was waiting at the bank of the river in a view to traffic her to India.

After a hectic search by the Police team, they rescued the victim and arrested the traffickers, SI Ishtiaq added.

The victim’s aunt Momtaz Begum filed a case with Khanjahan Ali Police Station under women and children trafficking law today.

SI Ishtiaq, who is also the investigation officer of the case, said the three arrestees would be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court with a remand prayer tomorrow.
