CHATTOGRAM, Sept 10, 2023 (BSS) - A Chattogram court here today awarded death

penalty to a Cook of a private office for stabbing to death their Accounts
Officer in 2012.

Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr Begum Jabun Nessa handed down the
verdict convicting Nihar Richil, 51, son of Kharip Sangmar, hailed from
Sherpur district.

The court also fined the convicted person Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer
three months more in jail.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that cook Nihar Richil stabbed to death
to an Accounts Officer of Tilottma Group SM Moin Uddin at their mess on the
third floor of Hyperion Building in city's Lalkhan Bazar area on January 31,
2022.

Later, younger brother of the victim S M Amin Uddin filed a murder case
against Nihar Richil with Khulshi thana over the incident.

Police also submitted a charge-sheet accusing the convicted person on June
29, 2022. The court framed charges against the accused person on November 9,
in 2022.

The court pronounced the judgment after examining eight prosecution witnesses
out of 11. The Judge delivered the verdict in presence of the convicted
person, court sources said.
