BANDARBAN, Oct 7, 2023 (BSS) - The World Cotton Day-2023 was observed in the district today like elsewhere in the country.

This year theme of the World Cotton Day is "Making cotton fair and sustainable for all, from the farm to fashion."

Marking the day, a colourful rally was held in front of Bangabandhu Muktamancha of the district town this morning. Cotton farmers of different areas of the district participated with colourful banners, posters and placards.

The speakers said that since 2019, the Cotton Day is being observed worldwide and the Cotton Development Board is working to inspire the general public about the importance of cotton, increasing cotton production, processing, consumption and marketing.

They also said Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of Ready-made Garments (RMG) and 2nd largest importer of cotton in the world.

The speakers urged the common people to cultivate more cotton in the land of hilly areas like in the plains and encourage the common people to cultivate other crops along with cotton and participate in the economic development of the country.

Bandarban Hill District Council member Singyoung Khumi, chief cotton development officer of Bandarban zone of Cotton Development Board, Md. Alamgir Hossain Mridha, cotton unit officers Angkyching Chak, Gitimoy Tangchangya, Babita Tangchangya and other cotton development board officials and cotton farmers of different areas, among others, were present.
