JHALAKATHI, Oct 10, 2023 (BSS) - The construction work of the newly-built eight-storey building of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building with all modern facilities in the district has been completed at a cost of Taka over 55.26 crore is now awaiting inauguration.
Executive Engineer of Jhalakathi Public Works Department Md. Faisal Alam said that the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building will be handed over to the judiciary authority within this month.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to inaugurate the Jhalakathi Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building. After the inauguration, the judicial proceedings will begin from here.
The Public Works Department has started the construction of an eight-storey court building with a 12-storey foundation on the south side of the Jhalakathi District Judge Court Building area under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Building Project, Md. Faisal Alam said.
Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Industry and former Minister of Industry inaugurated the foundation stone of the building on September 15 in 2018.
This building has various modern facilities. For the convenience of judges, lawyers and litigants, there are 22 toilets, 500 KB substation for uninterrupted power supply, breast feeding corner, prayers room, three modern lifts, modern library, conference room and judges' quarters. There are necessary office rooms with separate toilets for men and women, Md. Faisal Alam added.
Lawyers and litigants of the area said as a result of the construction of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building will solve the problem of lack of space and speed up the judicial process.
Around 99.50 percent works have been completed. The rest of the work of painting and lighting will be completed very soon and hand over to the judiciary department in mid-October, Executive Engineer of Jhalakathi Public Works Department Md. Faisal Alam said.
Advocate Abdul Mannan Rasul, president of Jhalakathi Bar Association, said that after the separation of the judiciary from the administration, the activities of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court started on November 1, 2007 on the third floor of the Jhalakathi District Judge Court Building. Due to lack of separate buildings and bench (Agelash), crisis judicial magistrates conducted the proceedings by turns.
He said "This new building will solve the space crisis for litigants and lawyers, and the long-standing litigation will be resolved."
On the other hand, the construction work of Sadar Hospital building with 250 beds is progressing fast at a cost of Taka 70.91 crore.
The Public Works Department expects the nine-storey hospital to be completed by December this year, Public Works Department office sources said.
The department is implementing this project under the project of upgrading the district Sadar Hospital from 100 beds to 250 beds under the health insurance and population programme.
Amir Hossain Amu, MP, inaugurated the foundation stone of the 250-bed Sadar Hospital on August 11 in 2018.
As a result, health care seekers of the district will get extensive facilities, Md. Faisal Alam said.
