BHOLA, Oct 13, 2023 (BSS) - The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction-2023 was observed in the district today in a befitting manner.

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is being observed since 1989, after a call by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) for a day to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. In 2009, the UNGA officially designated October 13 as the date to commemorate the day. 

The 2023 edition focuses on "Fighting inequality for a resilient future". 

Marking the day, a colorful rally was brought out from the premise of Deputy Commissioner's office which paraded the important streets in the district town and ended coming at the deputy commissioner (DC) office this morning.

 An awareness programme on Fire Drill and Earthquake was also held.

Later, a discussion was held at the conference room of the DC office, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ripon Kumar Saha in the chair. 

Deputy Director of Local Government Department Tamim Al Yameen, Additional Superintendent of Police Ripon Chandra Sarkar, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer SM Delwar Hossain, Deputy Director of District Cyclone Preparedness Program Md. Abdur Rashid and Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Liton Ahmed, among others, spoke.
