BOGURA, Oct 13, 2023 (BSS) - The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction-2023 was observed in the district today like elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner.

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is being observed since 1989, after a call by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) for a day to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. In 2009, the UNGA officially designated October 13 as the date to commemorate the day. 

The 2023 edition focuses on "Fighting inequality for a resilient future". 

Marking the day, a colourful rally was bought out from the Deputy Commissioner's office which paraded the important streets in the district town and ended coming at the deputy commissioner (DC) office this morning.

Fire service, Red Crescent and students of various schools participated in the rally.

On the occasion of the day, a discussion was held at the conference room of the DC office. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Al Maruf addressed the function as the chief guest with Golam Kibria, Deputy Director of District Relief and Disaster Management Office in the chair. 

Additional Superintendent of Police Sarafat Hossain and District Education Officer Hazrat Ali, among others, spoke.
