'Producing global standard products must to build a smart Bangladesh'

RANGPUR, Oct 14, 2023 (BSS) - There is no alternative to producing global standard high quality products to make all developments acceptable and attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs) on the way to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041.
 
The observation came at a discussion arranged in observance of the World Standards Day-2023 with the theme "Shared Vision for a Better World - Standards for SDGs" at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room here today.
 
The district administration and divisional office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) jointly organized the discussion to raise awareness about the quality and standards of products and services to attain the SDGs by 2030 next.
 
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Abu Jafar attended the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Director (Local Government) Most Zilufa Sultana in the chair.
 
Additional Deputy Inspector General (Ops) for Rangpur Range Police Pankaj Chandra Roy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Ops) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Uttam Kumar Paul Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Md Rezaul Islam Milan and President of Rangpur unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh Md. Abdur Rahman, addressed as special guests.
 
Deputy Director (Metrology) and Head of Office at BSTI Divisional Office in Rangpur Mofiz Uddin Ahmad delivered a welcome speech and the keynote essay in the event.
 
He narrated the significance of observing the day to value the need for standardization globally and steps taken by the present government to ensure quality standards of all products.
 
"The process of standardization will also help in promoting trade and technical issues," he said, and sought cooperation of industrialists, traders and businessmen in bringing more dynamism in the BSTI activities.
 
The speakers put emphasis on ensuring standard and quality of products and urged everyone to prevent production, supply and sale of adulterated food in local markets.
 
The chief guest said development of the industrial sector alongside ensuring high quality and global standard of products is very important for achieving the SDGs to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041 next.
 
"Everyone should work on BSTI standards to free all sectors from adulteration and ensure accurate measurement and quality of products for expanding the market and acceptance of products both at home and abroad," he added.
 
He also stressed on increasing the manpower and capacity of BSTI to achieve the goals.
