MYMENSINGH, Oct 15, 2023 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated at 831 Mondops in 13 upazilas of the district this year.

Although most of the Mondops have been ready, artisans are passing busy time in giving final touches to the idols.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Sanowar Hossain said of the total Mondops, 63 will be set up in Haluaghat Upazila, 33 in Dhobaura, 48 in Fulpur, 52 in Tarakanda, 62 in Goiripur, 130 in Mymensingh Sadar, 115 in Muktagacha Upazila, 71 in Mondops in Fulbaria, 73 in Trishal, 63 in Ishwarganj, 32 in Nandail, 32 in Gafargaon and 66 in Valuka Upazila.

Deputy Commissioner Mostafizur Rahman said the government has allocated 415 metric tons of rice for the Puja Mondop. The rice was handed over to the Upazila Nirbahi Officers, he added.

Police Super of Mymensingh Masum Ahmed Bhuiyan said necessary security measures have been taken for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja festival. "Police and Ansar will be deployed at every Mondop," he added.

President of district Puja Udjapan Committee advocate Rakhal Chandra Sarker hoped that this year's Durga Puja festival will be celebrated peacefully in the district.
