BHOLA, Oct 17, 2023 (BSS) - A mobile court in a drive today arrested three

fishermen from the Meghna river in Madanpur area under Daulatkhan upazila of
the district and fined Taka one thousand each for defying the government's
ongoing 22-day ban on Hilsha fishing, catching, selling, transporting and
marketing.

According to the district fisheries office, two engine-run boat, one dingi
boat and 11,500 meters of banned current nets were seized from their
possession during the drive.

A joint team of Fisheries Department, District Administration, Upazila
Administration, RAB, Police and Naval Police conducted the mobile court.

Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pathan Md. Saiduzzaman released the fishermen
after realizing Taka 3,000 as fine from the fishermen.

District Fisheries Officer Md. Abul Kalam Azad said the seized nets were
destroyed by fire.

The government has imposed a 22-day ban starting from October 12 on catching,
selling, storing and transporting Hilsha, to ensure safe spawning of the
Mother Hilsha, during its peak breeding period.
