JOYPURHAT, Oct 19, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man and his son to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Jitapur village under Sadar upazila of the district in 2005.

Senior Judge of the District and Sessions Judge Court Md Noor Islam pronounced the verdict this afternoon in the absence of the accused.

The convicts are Matleb and his son Babu of Jitarpur village under Sadar upazila.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer one year more imprisonment.

According to the detail of the case, on February 13 in 2005, the accused hit Ali Ahmed with rods, sticks and knives on different parts of his body and he was seriously injured.
 
Later, Ali Ahmed was admitted to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital with serious injuries. He died the next day while undergoing treatment.

The victim's wife Sajeda Begum filed a murder case on February 14 in 2005 at the Sadar Police Station accusing four people.

Later, police submitted charge-sheet against them.

After examining witnesses, the court found them guilty.
 
The court also acquitted another two accused from the case as they died before pronounce the verdict.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Nripendranath Mandal confirmed the matter.
