Durga Puja being celebrated amid pomp and gaiety in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Oct 22, 2023 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the five-day long greatest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, is being celebrated here peacefully with traditional festivity and due religious fervor.

 
District Puja Celebration Committee (DPCC) office sources said the puja is being held at 562 puja mandaps in the district with pomp and gaiety.
 
Meanwhile, the government allocated 293 metric tonnes of rice as special assistance for the 562 puja mandaps to assist the Hindu community for celebrating the festival, district relief and rehabilitation officer Mohammad Ruhul Amin said today.
 
District administration and district police authority have already taken four tires of safety measures to ensure the the security of the worshippers so that they can perform their religious rituals without facing any problem or untoward incident, an official source here said.
 
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Netrakona Shahed Parvez and superintendent of police (SP) Mohammad Foyaz Ahmed continued visiting different Puja mandaps in and around the district to oversee the security arrangements and law and order situation.
 
The DC and SP also exchanged Puja greetings with the Hindu community members and leaders of DPCC around the Puja mandaps.
 
This BSS correspondent, while visiting different Puja mandaps in around the district town, saw that a large number of devotees and visitors were seen gathering the Puja mandaps to have a look at the Goddess Durga and seek her divine blessings for their welfare and betterment of the mankind.

The Puja festival will be concluded with celebration of Bijoya Dashami and immersion of the idols of the Goddess Durga and other deities in different water-bodies including the river Mogra here on October 24 , chief advisor of DPCC Nirmol Kumar Das told BSS.
 
The DPCC leader Nirmol also expressed his satisfaction over the fool-proof security arrangements undertaken by the district administration and police administration at all the Puja mandaps.
