CHATTOGRAM, Oct 24, 2023 (BSS) - Chattogram district administration
distributed food among 100 families who were evacuated from the nine risky
hills pockets fearing landslides amid heavy rains for the last couple of
days.
The dry foods including - rice, sugar, pulse, drinking water and fried rice
were distributed among the families who have taken shelters in different
shelters centers.
The district administration also evacuated over 50 families from city's
Jalalabad Hill today.
The administration since Tuesday morning asked people through loudspeakers to
move to shelter centres or other safer places, Additional Deputy Commissioner
(revenue) Mohammad Abdul Malek, also member secretary of hill management
committee told BSS.
He said none would be allowed to stay in risky hills and the residents of
risky hilly areas must move to shelter centres or to their relatives' houses.
"If necessary, magistrates will conduct evacuation drives and we must prevent
deaths from landslides at any cost," Delwar said.
The sources said Assistant Commissioner (Land) Omar Faruk is supervising the
shelter centres and six other assistant commissioners and district relief and
rehabilitation officials have been deployed to conduct activities in the
shelter centres.
Meanwhile, the Patenga weather office recorded nearly 86 millimeter rainfall
during last 24 hours from 6 pm yesterday.
The met office also has forecasted cloudy weather and Chattogram port has
been asked to hoist local cautionary signal number 3.
