NETRAKONA, Oct 25, 2023 (BSS)-The five-day long Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community has ended last night through the immersion of the idols and other deities in different water-bodies here with due religious fervor and solemnity.
According to the Hindu belief, the Goddess Durga has gone back to her husband’s house in Kailash through immersion.
The idols of Goddess Durga and other goddess were taken to different points of the river Mogra and other water bodies for immersion with colorful processions, dancing and singing of Kirton amidst tight security.
The members of the law-enforcing agencies including police and RAB were seen busy to ensure security during the immersion to avert any untoward incident.
Earlier, a large number of devotees including female thronged to the puja mandaps for performing the rituals of “Bijoya Dashami” and to have a last glimpse of the Goddess Durga and sought her blessings for their welfare and progress, prosperity of the nation and betterment of the mankind by putting 'Sindur' (vermilion) and offering sweets to the Goddess Durga .
A total of 562 Puja mandaps were erected this year in the district and 57 Puja mandaps were setup in around the district town.
Talking to the BSS correspondent, leaders of the District Puja Udjapon Committee including its chief Advisor Nirmol Kumar Das thanked the government and expressed their gratitude to the district administration and district police authorities for ensuring fool-proof security during the five-day celebration of the Durga Puja festival.
They also expressed gratitude to the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for extending all out cooperation in celebrating Durga Puja with traditional festivity and due religious fervor.
