JOYPURHAT, Nov 3, 2023 (BSS) - Jail Killing Day was observed in the district in a befitting manner today.

On November 3 in 1975, four national leaders and heroes of the country's Liberation War -- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman -- were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail.

Marking the day, district Awami League took various programmes including hoisting flags, placing a floral wreath and discussion meeting in the district.

Awami League hoisted national, party and black flags at half-mast at the party office in the city and it was followed by paying homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Awami League party office organized by the district Awami League.

Member of Parliament from Joypurhat-1 Constituency Advocate Samshul Alam Dudu addressed the function as the chief guest with District Awami League President Arifur Rahman Rocket in the chair this morning.

District Awami League General Secretary Zakir Hossain, its Vice-President and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman SM Solaiman Ali, District Awami League Publicity Secretary A E M Masud Raza, public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Nripendranath Mondal and Sadar Upazila Awami League General Secretary Moazzem Hossain, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

The leaders and workers of AL's associate bodies, including Awami Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mohila Awami League, Sramik League, Krishak League and Swechchasebok League, among others, were present.
