Flood early action planning can reduce loss of lives, save assets: speakers

GAIBANDHA, NOV 16, 2023 (BSS)-Flood early action plan can reduce the loss of lives and properties and save the assets from the damages of the people of flood prone areas.

“As the Brahmaputra, one of the mighty rivers of the country blows through the Fulchhari upazila of the district, the people of the upazila face flood every year. During the seasonal and untimely floods, people of the upazila use to suffer a lot of loss and damages.  

In this context, early preparedness on flood can save the flood victims from harmful impacts of it”, they said.

They made the comments while addressing a daylong workshop on Flood Action Planning in upazila level at the conference room of Fulchhari upazila Parishad of the district this noon.

With the financial support of the Save the Children, SKS foundation, a Gaibandha based voluntary organization, arranged the function under Scaling up anticipatory action for flood prone areas in Bangladesh.

At the opening of the workshop, the overall activities of the project were discussed elaborately.

In the discussion, various activities including flood forecasting activities in the Bangladesh Water Development Board, voice messages regarding flood warning and forecast by Rhymes under the flood response program were highly appreciated.

After the elaborate discussion, a number of recommendations were adopted to make the activities of the project more effective in the upazila.

Project manager Jalal Uddin, project officer Ranjit Kumar Pal, representative of Rhymes Md. Jayed and representative of Save the Children Tazmul Islam took part in the discussion while upazila project implementation officer Md. Shahiduzzaman facilitated the workshop where upazila chairman GM Selim Parvez was in the chair. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Fulchhari Anisur Rahman addressed the workshop as chief guest.

Almost all the members of upazila disaster management committee participated in the workshop.
