BHOLA, Nov 17, 2023 (BSS) - A total of 869 shelter centers and 12 Mujib Forts (Mujib Killa) have been kept ready in the district to deal with cyclone 'Midhili'.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Arifuzzaman said that the government has opened 869 cyclone shelters and 12 Mujib Forts in the district so that people can take shelter if needed.
A total of 16,000 Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) volunteers including 2,000 Red Crescent Society workers are in the field and 98 medical teams have been formed. Eight control rooms are being opened in seven upazilas of the district, the DC said.
The DC also said that three levels of preparations have been taken by the district administration to deal with 'Midhili'. These are pre-disaster, disaster and post-disaster preparations.
Fishermen are being asked to return safely. Already 95 percent of the fishermen have returned to the ghats, Deputy Director of District Cyclone Preparedness Programme Md. Abdur Rashid said.
Meanwhile, due to the impact of cyclone Midhili, torrential rain and gusty winds have been blowing in the district since this morning. The water of various rivers has increased, Rashid said.
To deal with Midhili, a total of 743 tonnes of rice, cash Taka 20 lakh, Taka 9.10 lakh for baby food and Taka 9.30 lakh for cow food are in reserved, he added.
