Terosree Massacre Day observed in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Nov. 22, 2023 (BSS)-The Terosree Massacre Day was observed with various programmes including placing of floral wreaths at the martyrdom memorial, bringing out colourful rallies and discussion at Tersree under Ghior Upazila of the district today.

Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Rahana Akther was present at the programme as chief guest while Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC, General.) Sanwarul Haque presided over the function.

Manikganj District Awami League President also the Chairman of Manikganj Zila Parishad Freedom Fighter Advocate Golam Mohiuddin spoke on the occasion as special guest. Ghior Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Aminul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohsin Uddin, former Deputy Commander of Manikganj District Freedom Fighters Command Council Momin Uddin Khan, former commander of freedom fighters council of Ghior unit Aziz Mia, former Deputy Commander KM Siddique Ali, other freedom fighters, teachers, students and people of all walks of life attended the function and paid homage to the martyrs of Terosree like previous years.

On this day, on November 22nd in 1971 was a ‘Black Day’ for the people of Manikganj as they witnessed the heaviest casualties during the Liberation War. On this day at the brought daylight the occupation army of Pakistan all of a sudden attacked the village Terosree under Ghior Upazila of the district with the assistance of their local collaborators Al-Badar and Razakers.

The local people know the day as Terosree Massacre Day, Terosree Tragedy Day or Terosree Mass Killing Day.

 The Pak army cordoned off the village from all sides with arms and ammunition in the morning and started to firing to create fear among the people and started search operation from door to door.

First, the Pak army killed the then Zamindar of Terosee Siddheshwar Roy Prosad Chowdhury charging bayonet and burnt him alive covering with blankets. He was the founder and patron of lot of educational institutions in the then Manikganj Sub-Division. So he was the first target of the occupation army and their local agents.
The Pak army also brutally killed the Principal of Terosree College Atiar Rahman charging bayonet and gouged his eyes in broad day light.

Then the Pak army started to kill the innocent people of the village including the Muslims and Hindus one after another. They burnt all the houses of the village and bite the women and the children mercilessly.

The Pak army killed a total of 43 people in that operation of the village but 36 of them were identified so far, seven others were not identified known. Among the 36 martyrs Zamindar Siddheswar Prosad Roy Chowdhury and Principal Atiar Rahman were the top personalities.
