CHATTOGRAM, Nov 12, 2023 (BSS)-The first day of the fourth phase of blockade imposed by BNP-Jamaat and its like-minded parties did not have any visible impact on public life in Chattogram and its adjacent upazilas of the district today.
Public transports were almost normal on various roads of the city, district, train and launch movement was normal, police and locals opined.
However, very few long-distance buses departed from the port city. Life of the people was almost normal on Wednesday after visiting from morning to evening in various areas including Bahaddarhat, Chawkbazar, GEC, Muradpur, Gate No. 2, Laldighi and Pravartaka mor, traffic was also normal.
The BNP-Jamaat and its like-minded parties have previously held a strike on October 29 and a three-day blockade program on October 31, November 1 and 2 in protest against the attack, killings and arrests of their workers during their one-point demand aim on October 28. Then on November 5 and 6 in the second phase, on November 8 and 9 in the third phase, they held the blockade program. And the fourth round of 48-hour blockade started from Wednesday.
Public transport like buses, Tempo, Laguna and other vehicles are running. However, the number of private vehicles on the road was also normal, the sources added.
Traffic congestion was seen at some intersections in the port city and leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations were seen holding peaceful rallies at various intersections. However, the blockade supporters including BNP were nowhere to be seen. It has been reported that sudden processions beside the BNP's office were seen.
Kofil Uddin, officer in charge of Chattogram Fire Service Control Room, said that no arson attack was reported in Chattogram from the night before the blockade to this evening. Meanwhile, the total blockade did not affect the train movement. All trains left and arrived in Chatttogram from Dhaka on time.
All launches left Chattogram's Sadarghat for Bhola, Hatia and Barisal and all launches reached Chattogram as per schedule. Belayet Hossain, president of Chattogram Metropolitan Transport Owners Association said, "We are running our respective vehicles even during the blockade.
Zahidul Kabir, officer in Charge of Chandgaon thana said, "There is no sign of blockade on the road. All kinds of traffic are normal. No untoward incident occurred.'
