KHULNA, Dec 4, 2023 (BSS) : Returning Officer (RO) of Khulna Khondokar Yasir Arefin today cancelled the nomination papers of more six parliament member candidates including Islami Oikko Jote nominated candidate from Khulna-2 constituency Md Hedaetullah for various reasons in the upcoming 12th national election.
The RO Yasir Arefin also the deputy commissioner (DC) of Khulna cancelled their nomination papers during the last day of scrutiny for various reasons including shortage of necessary papers and wrong information, fake signatures of voters provided in the documents attached with the nomination papers, failed to pay electricity bills, bank loans and submitting tax return copy and certificates etc.
The RO today scrutinized 20 parliament members’ aspirants of Khulna-1, 2 and 3 constituencies out of all six. Of them, the RO declared 13 candidates as valid, 1 for waiting and 6 cancelled.
Those whose nomination papers were cancelled are -Md Azizur Rahman of Jaker Party, independent candidates Proshanta Kumar Roy and Sheikh Abed Ali for Khulna-1, Islami Oikko Zote candidate Md Hedatet Ullah and independent candidate Md Motiur Rahman for Khulna-2 constituency, independent candidates Kaizer Ahmed and Fatema Zaman for Khulna-3 constituency.
Besides, Motiar Rahman of Democratic Party for Khulna-2 constituency has been keeping waiting.
On Sunday, the RO cancelled 18 nomination papers for Khulna-4, 5 and 6 constituencies and announced 15 candidates as valid after scrutinizing their nomination papers.
Talking to BSS, the RO Khondokar Yasir Arefin said, nomination papers of 24 candidates were declared valid, 28 were cancelled and one are lying waiting of all Khulna six constituencies after two days of scrutinization.
The candidates whose nomination papers were cancelled can be appealed to the Election Commission (EC) for restoration of their candidacy from December 5 to 9, he said.
