GAIBANDHA, DEC 16, 2023 (BSS) - The Great Victory Day 2020 was celebrated in the district today in a befitting manner with a renewed vow for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh with the spirit of the War of Liberation.
Marking the day, district administration, various cultural organizations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes.
The day's programme began through heralding with 31 gun salutes at the time of sun rising placing wreaths at the monument located at Gaibandha Pouro Park, by district administration led by deputy commissioner (DC) Kazi Nahid Rasul, police department led by police super Kamal Hossain, district Muktijodha Sangshad, district AL, and other political parties.
Then, the DC accompanying with police super Kamal Hossain hoisted the national flag, released balloons and pigeons in the sky at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium at about 8:30 am.
After that a colorful march past was held in the stadium through active participation of ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, boys scouts, girl guides, school, college and Madrasah students and inmates of govt. Shishu Paribars.
DC Kazi Nahid Rasul and police super Kamal Hossain took salute of the march past as the chief guest and the special guest respectively.
Later, a reception was accorded to the freedom fighters and the members of martyred families on the ground of Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium at 11.30 at the arrangement of the district administration in cooperation with Zila Parishad.
The programmes also included children's art and essay writing competitions on Liberation War organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy and documentary film show arranged by District Information Office.
The other programmes included charity football match between district administration eleven and Gaibandha Municipality, arrangement of sports and games for the women by Mohila Krira Sangstha and holding of blood donation camp by Shandhani Donor Club.
Apart from this, special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and improved diets were also served in the hospitals, jail and orphanages.
