KHULNA, Dec 25, 2023 (BSS)- Candidates of all the six constituencies of the
district fully geared up their campaigns round the clock every day with the
hope of getting maximum support from the people ignoring cold and foggy
weather.
Besides, all the candidates of several political parties including the ruling
Awami League and their supporters are distributing leaflets among the voters
with their promises of development in their respective constituency.
Different Political parties and independent candidates, professional bodies
and people from all walks of life are going ahead with separate campaigning
round the clock for their candidates.
Leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies, Jatiya Party, Trinomul BNP,
Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNP) Islami Oikko Zote, Bangladesh Congress
party, Jaker Party and independent candidates are also campaigning in their
respective constituencies for contesting in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election
slated on January 7 in 2024.
A total of 36 candidates of several political parties including the ruling
Awami League are contesting in the six parliamentary seats of Khulna.
Awami League (AL)-backed candidate Nani Gopal and other three candidates are
fighting for Khulna-1 constituency.
According to local voters, the independent candidate (Eagle symbol) Proshanta
Kumar Roy is the main contender of 'Boat symbol' candidate Nani Gopal.
In Khulna-2 constituency, voters are expecting that AL-backed candidate
Sheikh Salahuddin Zwel will win the race. Jatiya Party candidate Md Gausul
Azam is the main contestant against Zwel who is now the incumbent MP (Member
of Parliament) of the constituency.
AL-backed candidate S M Kamal Hossain will mainly face against independent
candidate (Eagle symbol) Fatema Jaman Sathi for Khulna-3 constituency.
In Khulna-4 constituency, independent candidate S M Mortoza Rashidi Dara is
the main contestant against AL-backed candidate Salam Murshedy.
Salam is now the incumbent MP of the constituency while Dara is the younger
brother of late S M Mostofa Rashidi Suza, ex-general secretary of district
unit AL.
Independent candidate Akram Hossain is the main contestant against AL- backed
candidate Naryan Chandra Chanda of Khulna-5 constituency.
Chanda is the incumbent MP and ex-Fisheries and Live Stock Minister while
Akram was the former Chairman of Fultala upazila.
In Khulna-6 constituency, the central vice-chairman of Jatiya Party S M
Shafiqul Islam Modhu is the main contestant of AL-backed Md Rashiduzzaman.
Talking with voters of all six constituencies, most of them are expecting
that independent candidates will fight against AL-backed candidates in
Khulna-1,3,4 and 5 constituencies while Jatiya Party candidates will fight
against AL-backed candidates in Khulna-2 and 6 constituencies.
Of the independent candidates, Proshanta Kumar Roy, Mortoza Rashidi Dara and
Akram Hossain belong to Awami League politics.
