RAJSHAHI, Dec 28, 2023 (BSS)-More than 4,050 poor and destitute people were given blankets to protect them from the cold during the current winter season in Rajshahi.
 
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and Awami League (AL) Presidium Member AHM Khairuzzaman Liton distributed the blankets among representatives of 16 volunteer and development organizations at a simple ceremony held at City Bhaban green plaza here today.
 
RCC Chief Executive Officer Dr ABM Sharif Uddin, Secretary Mobarak Hossain, Panel Mayor Abdul Momin and Ward Councilors Shahadat Ali, Towhidul Haque, Shahidul Islam and Abbas Ali were present at the distribution programme.
 
 Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been extending need-based supports to the poor and marginalized people to mitigate the existing plights of the cold stricken people.
 
He also urged the richer sections of the society and other non-government volunteer and philanthropic organizations to stand beside the cold-hit people in the region with helping hands.
