CHATTOGRAM, Jan 1, 2024 (BSS) - A Chattogram court sentenced a man to 10 years of imprisonment for beating his father three years back.

The court of fourth Additional Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiyan delivered the judgment cconvicting Jiku Chowdhury, 35, son of Dr Mukul Shill, a resident of south Kattali. The court also fined him TK 20,000, in default, he has to suffer one year more imprisonment. 

According to the prosecution, Jiku beat his father on September 30, 2020 as he refused to give him Tk 1,20,000. Later, he took away the amount of money breaking the vault of his father's pharmacy. 

The victim was admitted to local health complex and later he was shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where he took treatment for many days. 

Mukul Shill filed a case with Pahartali police station against son Ziku Chowdhury.

Police submitted charge sheet on January 8, 2021 while the court framed charges on May 23 in 2023.

The court examined a total of six prosecution witnesses out of eight and passed the order in absence of convicts, court sources said.
