KHULNA, Jan 7, 2024 (BSS) - Polling of the 12th parliamentary election ended
at 4:00 pm peacefully amid a festive mood in Khulna.
Men and women voters cast their ballots today after the voting began at 8am
in polling centers in all six constituencies in Khulna city and district.
Though the voter turnout was a few in the morning due to cold weather, the
number rose sharply with the passing of time.
A total of 239 candidates from different political parties including the
ruling AL contested for 36 parliamentary seats of 10 districts of Khulna
Division.
A total of 3,083 police were deployed in Khulna-2 and Khulna-3 constituencies
and 2,142 police were deployed in Khulna-1,4, 5 and 6 constituencies of the
district.
A total of 10 returning officers, 71 assistant returning officers, 4,984
presiding officers, 30,253 assistant presiding officers, and 60,506 polling
agents performed their duties according to the direction of Election
Commissioner (EC).
Khulna Returning Officer (RO) and also the deputy commissioner Khondokar
Yasir Arefin told BSS that the voting ended today in a peaceful manner in
Khulna without any incident.
Over 32 percent of voters casted their votes in all six constituencies, he
said, adding that votes counting is continuing.
