KHULNA, January 18, 2024 (BSS): Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque today urged the media people to play a responsible role along with enjoying freedom.

He said this while addressing as chief guest at Wadudur Rahman Panna Smrity Padak (crest) distribution ceremony among three local journalists for their best investigating reports at journalist Humayun Kabir Balu auditorium at Khulna Press Club (KPC) here.

Khaleque, also the president of Khulna city Awami League, said when a section of media published or broadcast false, baseless and fabricated reports against any person, community or government, image and dignity of the media as well as the journalists hampered.

Urging the journalists he said any sorts of criticism should be objective and impartial.

Chaired by KPC President S M Nazrul Islam, ex-KPC presidents Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Sheikh Abu Hasan, S M Zahid Hossain and Md Shariful Islam and Assistant Professor of the Mass Communication and Journalism department of the Khulna University and president of Zohora Khatun Shishu Biddya Niketon Towfiq Rahman addressed the function.

Earlier, a five-member selection committee headed by ASM Humayun Kabir, deputy chief information officer of Khulna Regional Press Information Department finalized three journalists for the award for their best reporting.

The three best reporters’ are-Maksud Ali of Dainik Khulna, Abul Hasan Himaloy of Dainik Purbanchal and Alamgir Hannan of Dainik Ajker Tathya,
 
Later, the mayor distributed cheques and Padaks (crests) among the three journalists for their best investigating reports.
 
As per deed with late Journalist Wadudur Rahman Panna, founder of City’s Zohora Khatun Shishu Biddya Niketon and Khulna Press Club, the KPC authority every year will hnonour three journalists of local media for their best reporting .
