NATORE, Jan 24, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for raping a woman after abduction in Bagatipara upazila of the district in 2010.

Judge of Natore Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Muhammad Abdur Rahim handed down the verdict to Dulal Das, 36, hailed from Chimnapur villege in the upazila. The court also fined him Tk 50000.

According to the prosecution, the convict abducted the woman at night outside her house and raped her in a sugarcane field at the village on July 23 in 2010. Following the incident, the woman filed a case against Dulal Das and one Nizam on July 25 with Bagatipara Thana. Police pressed the charge sheet on September 26 in the year against the duo.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court acquitted Nizam as charge brought against him could not be proven.
