NAOGAON, Jan 25, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing a tailor during an altercation in Somnagar village under Porsha upazila of the district in 2019.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Abu Shamim Azad pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The court also fined the accused Taka 1,00,000, in default, he will have to suffer two years more in jail.
The convict is Md Mofiz Uddin, resident of Somnagar village under Porsha upazila of the district.
According to the details of the case, on February 8, 2019, the victim Md. Yunus Ali went to the shop of tailor Md. Mofiz Uddin to attach a chain to his jacket. Tailor Mofiz Uddin demanded Taka 30 as wages for fitting the chain. But Yunus wanted to pay Taka 20. An altercation started between them. At one point the tailor Mofiz Uddin hit Yunus on the head with a bamboo stick. He was seriously injured and taken to the local village doctor. The doctor stitched and bandaged the injured Yunus' head but he died on the way home.
Later, Sonabar Ali, the younger brother of the victim filed a murder case with Porsha Police Station in this regard.
Police submitted charge-sheet against Mofiz Uddin.
After examining witnesses, the court found him guilty and handed down the punishment today.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdul Khalek confirmed the matter.
