MANIKGANJ, Feb 1, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death for killing his ex-wife after hurling acid in 2022. 

Senior District and Session Judge Joyosree Samaddar pronounced the verdict in a crowded court in presence of the convicted.

The story of the case in nutshell is that Naim Mollik, son of Nijam Mollik, of village Betila under Manikganj Sadar upazila, married Sathi Akter, daughter of Abdus Satter of village Ferazipara under Saturia upazila of the district one year ago on April 10, 2021 of the incident and divorced her after a year. 

On January 29 in 2022 accused Naim Mollik threw acid through the window to the sleeping Sathi Akter at her father's house and Sathi was wounded seriously. Later, she was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burnt Institute where she died.

Matterul uncle of the victim Lal Mia filed a case against Naim Mollik with Saturia Police Station. 

Investigation Officer (IO) the then Officer-in-Charge (OC) submitted the charge sheet against him on April 12, 2022.

After examination the witnesses and documents, the court pronounced the verdict today.
