CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Feb 8, 2024 (BSS) - A court here has sentenced one person to life-term imprisonment and fined him Tk. 50,000, in default, two years more to suffer in jail in a drug case.
The convicted person was Harun-Or-Rashid alias Harun, 27, son of Md. Abdul Wahab of Ramchandrapurhat at Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.
Another accused of the same case named Sharif was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proved.
Senior Session Judge Md. Adeeb Ali announced the verdict in presence of the convict on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the prosecution story, acting on a tip off, members of the Narcotics Control Department conducted a raid at the house of Harun and apprehended Harun and his uncle Sharif with 100 grams of heroin on November 6, 2019.
But, Harun managed to flee attacking NCD operational team members.
On the same day, Inspector Md. Raihan Ahmed Khan of the department filed a case with Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station.
Investigating officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector Asadur Rahman of the Narcotics Control office submitted the charge sheet against the duo to the court on December 30, 2019.
Later, absconded Harun surrendered to the court on October 4, 2020.
After a long hearing, the court gave the verdict.
