GAIBANDHA, FEB 11, 2024 (BSS)-A meeting to construct a monument on the War of Liberation was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here this noon. 

District administration arranged the meeting with DC Kazi Nahid Rasul in the chair. 

Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Jahangir Alam attended the function and addressed as chief guest and said as the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in the spirit of the War of Liberation, it has taken an initiative to build monuments on the War of Liberation across the country for the next generation. 

Additional District Magistrate Mashiur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdul Awal, system analyst of the ministry Mohammad Abdullah Junaid, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmud Al Hasan, Convener of the graveyard of martyrs' conservation committee GM Chowdhury Mithu and freedom fighters Ali Akbar Miah and Majibur Rahman addressed the meeting among others.

The speakers said, due to various obstacles, it was not possible to build a monument of the Liberation War at the graveyard of the martyrs adjacent to Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium of the town. 

In this context, the speakers demanded immediate construction of a monument at the graveyard of martyrs' as soon as possible.

Later, the guests visited the graveyard of the martyrs site of Phulchari Upazila and construction of the monument at Nuniyagari of Palashbari Upazila.
