BARISHAL, Feb 20, 2024 (BSS) -People are set to pay homage to language martyrs tomorrow coinciding with the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.
 
Different government, semi-government, district administration, Barishal City Corporation, District Council, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural organisations, political parties and educational institutions have completed all preparations to observe the day with due respect in the city.

Officials said the district and upazila administrations and other organisations have already completed preparation for observing International Mother Language Day.

In Barishal city, the observance will begin at one minute past zero hour on February 21, Barishal District administration, Barishal City Corporation, District Council, Schools-Colleges, non-Government Institutions and various organizations will place wreaths at central Shaheed Minar in Sadar Road of the city due respect to the Language Martyrs.

The other programmes of the day include hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop all buildings, educational institutions, decoration of the streets with miniature national and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.

On the occasion of Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, a day-long free medical camp will be held at Sadar Road in the city, Assistant Professor of Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital Dr. Muhammad Zubair Hossain said.

A discussion on language movement, blood donation, cultural programs and painting competitions will be held in the district.
