NARAIL, Feb 21, 2024 (BSS) - Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2024 was observed in Narail as elsewhere in the country on Wednesday with due respect to martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.
Awami League, socio-cultural and volunteer organizations and educational institutions observed the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh.
The programmes included lying of wreaths at the altar of Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast in all public and private buildings and mourning procession (probhat ferry), discussion, cultural and literary functions.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Asfaqul Haque Chawdhury, Police Super Md. Mehedi Hasan, Additional Police Super Tareq Al Mehedi, district Awami League president Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, AL leader and former district council chairman Advocate Shorab Hossain Biswas, Narail Press Club president Advocate Alamgir Siddique, former vice president Sultan Mahmood, laid wreaths at the altar of Shaheed Minar at Shipakala Academy at zero hours last.
The day's programmes also included Quran Khwani, Doa Mahfil, discussion and serving improved diets to the inmates of hospitals, jails, safe homes and baby homes and screening of documentary films on the Language Movement.
Meanwhile, Narail Government Victoria College, Narail Govt. Mohila College, Lohagora Govt. Adarsha College and other educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day.
