NATORE, March 7, 2024 (BSS) - The historic March 7 was observed in the district as elsewhere of the country today in a befitting manner, commemorating the landmark speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was touted as an indirect declaration of the country's independence in 1971.
On the occasion of the day, hoisting of the national flag, wreath laying, competitions, discussions and cultural programmes were organized by the district administration.
Marking the day, the district administration, district unit of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and many other organisations chalked out elaborate programmes.
In the morning, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Naser Bhuiyan, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shariful Islam, Chairman of Natore Zila Parishad Advocate Sajedur Rahman Khan, District Awami League President Advocate Md. Sirajul Islam and its General Secretary and Natore Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shariful Islam Ramzan placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Collectorate building premises of the district town.
The programme was followed by a discussion held at the Anima Chowdhury Auditorium in the district town this morning on the importance of the day March 7 with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Naser Bhuiyan in the chair.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shariful Islam, Chairman of Natore Zila Parishad Advocate Sajedur Rahman Khan, District Awami League President Advocate Md. Sirajul Islam and its General Secretary and Natore Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shariful Islam Ramzan among others, spoke at the function.
The speakers said the 7th March speech of Bangabandhu had a sparkling effect on the entire population in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and they became united under his efficient leadership to bravely fight for liberating the motherland from Pakistani rule.
They also lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the achievement as historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu got UNESCO recognition as the world's documentary heritage on October 30, 2017.
Meanwhile, the day began with hoisting of the National and Party flags atop the Awami League (AL) office this morning and leaders and activists of AL and its front organisations placed wreaths on the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
