MAGURA, March 7, 2024 (BSS) - The historic March 7 was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country today in a befitting manner, commemorating the landmark speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was touted as an indirect declaration of the country's independence in 1971.
On the occasion of the day, hoisting of the national flag, wreath-laying, discussions and cultural programmes were organized by the district administration.
Marking the day, the district administration, district unit of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and many other organisations chalked out elaborate programmes.
In the morning, Member of Parliament for Magura-1 constituency Shakib Al Hasan, Member of Parliament for Magura-2 constituency Dr Biren Sikder, Additional District Magistrate and Acting Deputy Commissioner Prashant Kumar Biswas, Superintendent of Police Mashiuddaula Reza, District Awami League President Abdul Fattah, its General Secretary and Zilla Parishad Chairman Pankaj Kumar Kundu, Municipal Mayor Khurshid Haider Tutul, Magura Government Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardy College Principal Professor Rizvi Zaman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Shamim Kabir, Sadar Upazila Chairman Abu Nasir Bablu, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman, district Awami League and its affiliates, various government departments, teachers and students of educational institutions, and various socio-cultural organizations placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Nomani Maidan of the district town here in phases.
Later, a discussion was held at the freedom fighter Asaduzzaman Auditorium in the district town this morning on the importance of the day, March 7, with Additional District Magistrate and Acting Deputy Commissioner Prashant Kumar Biswas in the chair.
Member of Parliament for Magura-1 constituency Shakib Al Hasan addressed the meeting as the chief guest and Member of Parliament for Magura-2 constituency Dr Biren Sikder Superintendent of Police Mashiuddaula Reza, District Awami League President Abdul Fattah, its General Secretary and Zilla Parishad Chairman Pankaj Kumar Kundu also spoke as the special guests.
Municipal Mayor Khurshid Haider Tutul, Magura Government Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardy College Principal Professor Rizvi Zaman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Shamim Kabir, Sadar Upazila Chairman Abu Nasir Bablu, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman, leaders of district Awami League and its affiliates, various government departments’ officials, teachers and students, and various socio-cultural organizations, among others, were present.
They also lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the achievement as historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu got UNESCO recognition as the world's documentary heritage on October 30, 2017.
