CHATTOGRAM, March 8, 2023 (BSS) - The International Women's Day was observed in the port city and its adjacent areas in a befitting manner with a fresh call to recognizing work of women, establishing equal rights of men and women, preventing violence against women, giving proper respect to women.
Chattogram district and upazila administrations, Department of Women's Affairs (DWA), different NGOs, socio-cultural and professional bodies chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day in all upazilas and districts.
The day's programmes included releasing balloons, bringing out colourful rallies, seminars, discussions and cultural functions.
Chattogram district administration and directorate of woman affairs brought out a colourful rally carrying banners and festoons from the city's circuit house premises.
The rally ended at the same venue after parading different city streets.
Representatives from Department of Women Affairs Chattogram, World Vision, BACK, Arjan Women Development Agency, CODEC, Jugantar Women Development Agency, Prothma, BATA, YES, TIB, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Agradut Women Development Agency, Ipsa, Ilma, Edab, Ghasful , Pratibhamayi Women Development Organization, YWCA, Nikar Women Development Organization, Jaytun Women Welfare Organization, Suryakanya Women Development Organization, Banalata Distressed Women Welfare Center, Trinayani Women Development Organization participated in the rally.
To mark the day, a discussion meeting was held at circuit house around 10 am today with additional deputy commissioner (general) Rakib Hasan in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Deputy Director of Local Government Department Lutfun Nahar said that the desired development of the country is not possible without the empowerment of women.
Terming Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a successful woman, Lutfun Nahar said she is now a role model to the world for the development of women's society.
Besides, heads of various NGOs, registered associations spoke on the occasion. District Administration and Directorate of Women Affairs organized this meeting.
The theme of the day is "Narir Somo Odhikar, Somo Sujog-Egiye Nite Hok Biniyog".
Bangladesh Nari Progoti Sanga, Chattogram also brought out a colourful rally from city's DC Hill premises which paraded different city streets.
A rally was also held at Chattogram University (CU) in observance of the international Women's Day with Vice Chancellor of CU Prof Dr Sherin Akhter in the chair.
