NETRAKONA, March 8, 2024 (BSS) - The International Women's Day-2024 was observed here today as across the country and the world with a call to ensure equal right of the women folk and their empowerment in the society. 

This year's theme of the day is 'Narir Somo Odhikar, Somo Sujog-Egiye Nite Hok Biniyog'.
 
Marking the day, local administration and department of women affairs took various programs. 

As part of the programs, a colorful rally was brought out in the district town from the DC office premises that paraded main roads of the town. 

Later, a discussion meeting on "International Women's Day" was held at the conference room of deputy commissioner.

Chaired by deputy commissioner Shahed Parvez, the meeting was addressed, among others, by chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, additional deputy Commissioner (education) Bipin Chandra Biswas, additional police super Shibli Sadik and sadar upazila Nirbahi Officer Tania Tabassum and former commander of district Muktizoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin. 

The speakers called for improving socio-economic condition of the women folk and ensuring women empowerment in the society to steer the nation towards progress and prosperity.
