NOAKHALI, March 9, 2024 (BSS) - An elderly woman was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at her house in Hatiya upazila of the district early hours of today.
 
 The deceased was identified as Lalita Bala Das, 80, wife of late Gopal Das, a resident of Kalimandir area of Ward No-3 under Hatia Municipality.
 
 
The fire broke out at the house around 5:25am and Lalita  burnt to death in the  fire while she  was sleeping, Hatia fire service station firefighter Mehdi Hasan Bhuiyan said.
 
 
Being informed, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals after one hour of efforts and recovered the body of Lalita Bala from the spot, he said.
 
 
The reason behind the fire incident could not be known immediately, he added.
