GAIBANDHA, MARCH 18, 2024 (BSS) - Officials of a project in a function here said the people of flood prone areas here would be made aware about early flood side by side with briefing them for taking early preparedness to reduce the loss of life and properties due to devastating flood.
"During the flood, the sorrows and sufferings of the flood victims know no bounds. In that situation, the flood victims have to spend their days and nights in hardship and financial trouble. To help them to pass their days and nights without financial trouble, cash would be distributed to 29, 500 flood victims of the project command areas.
Each of the selected beneficiaries would get Tk 4500 to mitigate their sufferings during the flood and its post period", they also said.
They made the comments while addressing an inception ceremony of a project entitled Anticipatory Action to Vulnerable Households in Flood Prone Areas of Jamuna River Basin, Bangladesh at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here this afternoon.
Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a reputed non-government voluntary organization, arranged the function on the occasion of introducing the project in the district on February 15.
Assistant coordinator of GUK Aftab Hossain briefed the participants about the objectives of the project.
He said the project would be implemented in Sundarganj, Sadar, Phulchhari and Saghata upazilas of the district for five and a half months with the financial support of World Food Program aimed at reducing the loss of life and properties due to flooding.
Assistant commissioner of General section of the DC office Rezaul Islam attended the function as the chief guest on behalf of DC Kazi Nahid Rasul.
Shahin Sultana, representative of WFP coming from Rangpur, also spoke at the function.
High officials of the district administration, invited people, employees of the project, including the journalists, took part in the function.
