CHATTOGRAM, March 18, 2024 (BSS) – A Chattogram court today sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for trading drugs in 2012.
Chattogram Forth Metropolitan Additional Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiyan handed down the verdict.
The convict is Asaduzzaman, hailed from Cumilla district.
The court also fined Taka 10,000 to him, in default, to suffer one-year more in jail.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB detained Assaduzzaman with 540 bottles of Phensedyl from the city's Old railway station under Kotwali thana on July 4 in 2012.
Deputy Assistant Director of the RAB Kazi Mizanur Rahman filed a case with Kotwali thana against the alleged drug trader on the same day.
On July 29 in 2012, police submitted a charge-sheet before the court against him.
The court framed charges on 22 May, 2013 and announced the verdict in absence of the convict after examining a total of five prosecution witnesses out of eight.
