JHALAKATI, March 19, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a youth to death and a woman to life term imprisonment for killing a minor boy after abduction in Kathalia upazila of the district in 2015.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Masudur Rahman handed down the verdict to Yasin Jomadder, 25, and Rehana Akhter, 45. They were the residents at Jorkhali village in Kathalia upazila.

According to the prosecution, Mehedi Hasan, 8, disappeared from the village Jorkhali on August 28 in 2015. On August 31, his body was recovered by the police from a garden at the village.

Following the murder, Mehedi Hasan's father filed a case with Kathalia Thana accusing six people, including three children. On December 30 in 2017, police pressed the charge sheet.

Testifying witnesses and evidences the court passed the order that acquitted another accused. The three children accused had been freed by a children court earlier, said Additional Public Prosecutor Mostafizur Rahman Monu.
