RAJSHAHI, March 25, 2024 (BSS)- The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) has started selling eggs at subsidized rates for welfare of the marginalized and other low-incoming group people together with meeting their protein demands.
On behalf of the Aman Poultry and Hatchery Limited, the DLS officials opened the egg-distribution activities at different points, including Sagarpara, to mark the holy month of Ramadan.
They are selling the eggs at Taka 5 per piece and each person can purchase at best 30 eggs at a time.
DLS Divisional Director Dr Abdul Hai Sarker, District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfiker Muhammad Akhter Hossain, Additional District Livestock Officer Dr Fazley Rabbi and Monitoring Officer Mahmudul Hassan were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdul Hai Sarker said regular egg intake is very much important for maintaining sound health as it's a balanced food for all irrespective of age, gender and season.
Eggs are relatively low in calories and saturated fat and rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and other healthy nutrients.
Protein is an important constituent of food which is necessary for strengthening and building of muscles and tissues and development of the brain.
He mentioned that egg is a great source of protein and it provides us with essential vitamins like D, B6, B12, and also minerals like zinc, copper, and the power source iron. Especially the yolk supports us with vitamins like A, D, E, and K. It is also rich in lecithin.
Simultaneously, the DLS officials are selling milk and different other milk-made food at subsidized rates supported by Naba Dairy and Cattle Farm to mark the holy month of Ramadan.
