MANIKGANJ, March 25, 2024 (BSS) - The district administration has observed the ‘Genocide Day’ today with various programes to pay the homage to the valiant sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives for the country in 1971.
On this occasion, a discussion was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner under the auspices of Manikganj district administration. Deputy commissioner Rahana Akther was present at the discussion as chief guest.
The function chaired by ADC (Gen) Toriqul Islam was addressed, among others, by deputy director of Local Government Shahina Parvin, civil surgeon Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan Chowdhury, district Awami League general secretary also public prosecutor (PP) Abdus Salam and former deputy commander Manikganj District Freedom Fighters Command Council Momin Uddin Khan.
All the departmental heads, freedom fighters, teachers and students including the elite of the town attended the function. A musical drama was also held on this occasion.
Special munajat was offered at different mosques after Zuhr prayers and other places of worship seeking eternal peace for the martyrs who were killed on March 25, 1971.
A Dua-Mahfil was held at Manikganj Collectorate Jame Mosque under the joint auspices of Manikganj district administration and local Islamic Foundation.
Lighting the candles and one minute blackout all over the district were also included in the programmes of the day.
Besides, Manikganj district Awami League and Jubo League observed the day with their own programmes.
