CHAPAINAWABGANJ, March 26, 2024 (BSS)- Members of Border Guard Bangladesh
(BGB) arrested an alleged illegal arms trader and seized arms, ammunition and
huge contraband drugs from his possession from Shibganj in Chapainawabganj
district yesterday evening.

a man with a foreign pistol, six rounds of bullet, two magazines and two
kilograms of hemp were seized from the possession of detained Md. Shofiqul
Islam, 35 of Naldubi Shantirmore area under Shibganj upazila of the district.

BGB said, acting on detective information, a patrol team of the BGB-59
battalion from Chakpara Border Out Post conducted a raid in Naldubi Bridge
area under Namochakpara village in Shahbajpur union of Shibganj upazila of
the district from .30 pm till 7pm and detained a battery-run van.

After searching the vehicle, the team seized a bag full of the contraband
items and nabbed its passenger Shofiqul.

Later, the arrested was handed over to the police of Shibganj thana with a
case, the sources said.

During the last one year, 59 battalion of the BGB arrested a total of 14
people and recovered 23 pistols, 390 rounds of bullet and 38 magazines from
the frontier areas.
