NETRAKONA, March 26, 2024 (BSS) - The 54th Independence Day was observed in the district today with much enthusiasm and a fresh vow to build up the country as "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In observance of the day, district administration, district Muktizoddha Sangsad, different socio-cultural and political organizations, including Awami League, professional groups and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programs.
The day's programme began with heralding of 31-gun salute on district collectorate office premises in the early hours of today.
As part of the programs, the national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings in the district during sun-rising period.
In the morning, deputy commissioner Shahed Parvez at first formally placed floral wreaths at the memorial monument of martyred freedom fighters on district collectorate office premises.
Then, Chairman of Netrakona zilla parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, police super Foyaz Ahmed, mayor of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, civil surgeon Netrakona Mohammad Salim Mia, president of Netrakona district Awami League Advocate Amirul Islam and general secretary of Netrakona press club Advocate Habibur Rahman and public representatives, political leaders, civil society members and people from all walks of life placed wreaths there.
A colorful combined parade of police, Ansar, BNCC, boy scouts, girl guides and children of different juvenile clubs and educational institutions was held at the local stadium in the morning.
Deputy Commissioner Shahed Parvez took salute at the parade.
A reception was accorded to the local freedom fighters by the district administration at the local public hall here.
Improved diets were served to the inmates of hospitals, jails and
orphanage children's family centers in the district.
A special prayer was held at Netrakona central Jam-e-Mosque after Zohr
prayers seeking blessings of Almighty Allah for progress and prosperity of the nation.

Netrakona district information office screened documentary film show based on "Liberation War" for the people at local Muktarpara ground.
A discussion on "The historic leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and country's development" was held at local public hall under the auspices of the district administration.
Later, the meeting was followed by a musical soiree based on patriotic songs.
