JASHORE, March 30, 2024 (BSS) - A total of 3,40,347 poor and distressed families of the district will get 3403.47 tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding(VGF) programme ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Officials of the district administration said that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distributing among the poor and distressed families in all eight upazilas and eight municipalities in the district.
"The upazila administrations with assistance of local government representatives and union level committees are preparing to distribute the rice to listed VGF card holder families,'' said district relief and rehabilitation officer Rijibul Islam.
Each of the selected beneficiary families will get 10 kg of rice in all eight upazilas and eight municipalities in the district. The distribution process will be completed before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Under the programme, 90.83 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 9,083 families in Abhaynagar upazila, 163.63 tonnes to 16,363 families in Bagharpara upazila, 124.65 tonnes to 12,465 families in Chowgachha upazila, 152.25 tonnes to 12,225 families in Jhikorgacha upazila, 169.52 tonnes to 16,952 families in Keshobpur upazila, 313.30 tonnes to 31,310 families in Sadar upazila, 297.50 tonnes to 29,750 families in Monirampur upazila and 236.20 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 23,602 families in Sharsha upazila.
Besides, 1855.77 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 1,85,577 families in Jashore, Benapole, Keshobpur, Monirampur, Bagharpara, Nowapara, Jhikorgacha and Chowgachha municipalities of the district.
District relief and rehabilitation officer Rijibul Islam said that steps are being taken to complete distribution to the card holder families before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr to assist them in celebrating the festival.
