GAIBANDHA, April 23, 2024 (BSS)- Shamsil Arefin Titu, president of Saghata upazila Awami League unit under Gaibandha has been elected chairman unopposed in the upazila parishad polls this noon.

Abdul Mottalib, district election officer and also returning officer of sixth upazila election here announced the results at his office this noon in a crowded room.

A total of three candidates including Titu submitted nomination papers through online to contest the upazila election.

However, two candidates- Hasan Mehedi Bidyuit and former UP chairman Shamsul Azad Shital withdrew their candidature. As a result, district election officer Abdul Mottalib declared Shamsil Arefin Titu as upazila parishad chairman unofficially this noon at his office of the town here in presence of huge number of people from Saghata upazila.

In reply to a query, the district election officer said the election for the post of vice chairman and female vice chairman would be held on May 08 as a good number of candidates submitted their nomination papers for the two posts.
