Gazipur, May 4, 2024 (BSS) - Two construction workers were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a dump truck and a pickup van in Sreepur Upazila here early this morning.

The deceased were identified as Rassel Mia, 25, of Dulura village in Sunamganj and his brother-in-law Abu Sufian, 25.

"Two persons were found dead on their arrival at the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex around 5 am," duty doctor Farah Binte Faruk said.

Three injured persons are undergoing treatment at the health complex as the rest have been sent to different hospitals, he added.

Sreepur Fire Service Station Officer Belal Ahmed said 14 construction workers taking with a big mixing machine were going to Ansar Road area from Sreepur for welding work boarding on a pickup van.

As they reached the Bhangonahati area of Sreepur-Maona regional road, a speeding dump truck hit them from behind and the pickup overturned.

One victim Rasel died on the spot as the mixing machine fell over him, Ahmed said.

The other person died on the way to the health complex.
