GAIBANDHA, May 5, 2024 (BSS)- The International Day of the Midwife was
celebrated in the district as elsewhere across the country and the globe
today with a call to highlight the important role of the midwives in the
health of mothers, children and their families.
Marking the day, Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex of the district arranged a
discussion that was held at the hall room of the complex with Dr. Suranjan
Kumar in the chair.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Shahinul Islam addressed the
function as the chief guest.
Assistant Surgeon Dr. Minu Akhter, Junior Consultant Dr. Abdul Jobbar, Dental
Surgeon Dr. FoysalZakir and Senior Nurse Rina Akhter addressed the meeting,
among others.
The speakers emphasized for ensuring four times antenatal care for the
pregnant mothers and same times of postnatal care for them in a bid to do
welfare of the mothers and children.
Dr. Shahinul Islam Mondal underscored the need for bringing all pregnant
mothers under an institutional delivery system in lieu of home delivery one
to check the mortality rate of mothers and children.
Dr. Suranjan Kumar urged the midwives working in the upazila to be more
serious and professional in providing their delivery services to the pregnant
mothers to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and children to achieve the
sustainable development goals of the government by 2030.
A good number of midwives, official and staff of the complex including
journalists attended the function.
