JAMALPUR, May 28, 2024 (BSS) - The Health Department will hold the national vitamin A plus campaign in the district on June 1, aiming to feed vitamin A capsules to 336,815 children.
Civil Surgeon Dr Md Fazlul Haque at a press conference disclosed preparations regarding the campaign at its Dr Nazrul Islam conference room here thisafternoon.
He said that as Vitamin A is one of the most important micronutrients for child survival, growth, and vision, massive awareness was created to make the campaign a success.
He said each of 37,431 children, including 143 challenged children aged from 6 months to 11 months, will be administered a one-lakh IU (International Unit) blue coloured vitamin A capsule.
Beside, he said each of the 298,868 children, including 516 challenged children aged from 12 months to 59 months, will be fed a two lakh IU red-coloured vitamin A capsule during the campaign.
The Civil Surgeon said to make the campaign a success, a total of 1,704 centres have been set up in the district, of which 1,692 are temporary centres and 12 are permanent centres.
Civil Surgeon Office organised the programme implemented by National Nutrition Services, the Department of Health and also Ministry of Health and Family Planning.
Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr Rezwana Rashid and Medical Officer, Dr Rafia Binte Rouf were present at the press conference.
