CHAPAINAWABGANJ, July 1, 2024 (BSS)- A court here on Sunday afternoon sentenced two persons to life-term imprisonment in two separate cases.

The convicts were Nasim Ali, 26, son of Sesarul Ali of Tartipur village under Shibganj upazila and Jahirul Islam, 37, son of Sadequl Islam of Chowdala Nandalalpur village under Gomostapur upazila both in Chapainawabganj district.

Senior District and Session Judge and also the Judge of the Special Tribunal -1 Md Adeeb Ali announced the verdicts in absence of both the convicts.

According to the prosecution story, on September 8, 2017 at night Ziaur Rahman, son of Monirul Islam of Tartipur village went out of home but did not return. His body was found next day at Tartipur Swashanghat area of the upazila.

At this Monirul Islam filed a murder case with Shibganj thana on the same day.

Police arrested accused Nasim Ali on September 14, 2017.

Investigating officer of the case Sub-inspector Abu Abdullah Jahid of DB police submitted charge sheet to the court on October 31, 2017.

After hearing the witnesses the court sentenced Nasim Ali to life-term imprisonment. The court also fined the convict of Taka 50,000,in default ,two years more to suffer in jail.

On the other hand, members of RAB in a drive at Saragram under Boalia union of Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district on May 31, 2022 arrested Jahirul Islam with two pistols, two magazines and six bullets.

Next day sub-inspector Akramul Hoque of RAB-5 filed a case against him with Gomostapur thana.

Officer in charge of Gomostapur thana and investigating officer of the case Dilip Kumar Das submitted charge sheet to the court on June 30, 2022.

After hearing the witnesses the court handed down the punishment.
